Our Origins

Founding & Early Years

The Kathakali Club, Thrissur, was founded by a group of visionary cultural leaders and Kathakali enthusiasts, including Dr. K. N. Pisharody, Chittur Kunjan Namboothiripad, and other committed patrons of the classical arts.

Recognising the need for a consistent and organised platform for presenting Kathakali, the founders envisaged an institution that would uphold classical traditions while remaining relevant to changing times.

In its formative decades, the Club emerged as a dependable cultural institution in Thrissur. Kathakali performances during this period were predominantly conducted at the Regional Theatre, Thrissur, which became closely associated with the Club's high standards of artistic presentation.

Today, performances have expanded to temples and auditoriums across Thrissur town, bringing Kathakali closer to diverse audiences while maintaining the same commitment to quality.
